WORLD CUP SOCCER
Now that it is confirmed that Australia will bid for the Soccer World Cup for 2018-2022 it is important not to leave out the Northern Territory from the equation in potentially hosting games.
This point was raised during recent estimates hearings when myself as Shadow Infrastructure Minister quized the Territories Sports Minister asking him what steps his government has taken to secure World Cup matches in Darwin. My jaw dropped when the Sports Minister replied "In terms of world cup games I can't see us having the capacity or crowds".
Instead of talking up the Territory's prospects of hosting matches he completely negated the idea. The Territory Government should be approaching the Prime Minister and Football Federation Australia putting in our bids. I'm stunned the Sports Minister would take such a defeatist approach so early in the bidding process.
With this attitude in mind I have taken the initiative and written to the Prime Minister, copying in Football Federation Australia and our Territory politicians seeking consideration for the World Cup matches and infrastructure support to suit. See the attached letter. Let's see how the Prime Minister responds.

Thanks very much to Alice Springs police for there continued hard work and significant presence at Northside shops in Braitling.
The continued police presence in terms of general policing, the focus on Northside as a hot spot for policing and the occasional police van being at Northside shops is greatly appreciated.
